Seared Sea Scallops

By Lois Richwine • June 4, 2014 • Appetizers and Sides, Holidays, Recipes, Seafood

scallops

A scallop is a common name applied to many species of marine bivalve mollusks in the family Pectinidae, the scallops. Scallops are a cosmopolitan family, found in all of the world’s oceans. wikipedia.org/wiki/Scallop

Scallops are also packed with B-12 vitamins and they are full of protein. These succulent, luscious, sweet mollusks are so easy to prepare. My recipe is very simple. However, I have made scallops many different ways at different times, I love them with smoked paprika, I’ve added them to pasta dishes. They are great with the super popular Sriracha sauce, or chilies. Let me know how you make scallops at your house!

Simply Seared Scallops

  • 6 sea scallops, rinsed and patted dry
  • 1 tab of olive oil
  • 1 tab of butter
  • salt
  • pepper

Use a large skillet, add the olive oil and butter and turn the heat to high. Add the scallops when the butter almost turns brown, it will be very hot, sprinkle scallops with salt & pepper. Sear the scallops on one side about 4 minutes. Resist the urge to turn them! Finally, turn the scallops and cook the other side for about 3 minutes. They should be soft on the inside. Don’t  over cook them or they can become tough. Enjoy!
